My story is about what happened with one of my customers a few years ago. After, I think, 14 years of having their cocker spaniel, Little Missy went peacefully one night.
As a groomer, I have always found that thereis no shortage of individuals that thinksomeone needs another dog. While at work one day, I received a phone call from the Coffeyville Animal Control Officer (ACO) about two cocker pups that had been thrown over the shelter fence. Ironically, it had only been a month since Missy had passed away. I told the ACO I would be happy to groom the pups so that maybe we would be able to find them homes.
In the mean time, I contacted my customer to see if they would be interested in looking at these pups. I knew it was soon but I also knew the kind of everlasting home at least one of these dogs could have in their home. I never dreamed that they would both end up being adopted. My customer took one and their son decided he would like to adopt the other one. The dogs still see each other regularly, get to play regularly with each another.
Although maybe I get credit for a big part of being responsible for them finding these homes, I myself believe in faith. Faith tells me that when Missy passed away she was still looking out for her family. I believe that Missy guided those pups where she knew they were needed; guided the ACO to call me, and guided me to call my customer. Only Missy knew Todd needed a new best friend. I remember the absolutely lost look on their faces after Missy passed. They don't have that look anymore.
God allowed Missy to shine as a guardian angel all the way to the end. I think this is a wonderful story that I hope all will remember. There are wonderful dogs out there; many of which come from shelters. Don't forget to at least look into adoption as an option.
